SportSquare
The newly designed SportSSquare on the Carnival Magic ship is a fully appointed sports area with exercise equipment, activities, and more. You’ll find a one of a kind full size volleyball court, a official size basket ball court, two separate outdoor exercise areas, and even weight lifting equipment. The kids will enjoy the variety of table games, like ping pong and table hockey. The area is available to anyone on the ship with no special package required to access it. You can also find a ropes course that is not designed for the faint of heart. This rope course spans 150 feet above the water. You are required to wear a harness before you can even consider participating in this. There isn’t a charge to use this Carnival Cruise Line feature, but there are height and weight restrictions.
Cucina del Capitano
Carnival lines is always working to provide restaurant experiences that are worthy of any cruise experience. While the dining experiences aren’t the biggest reason people go cruising, it’s certainly something that is looked at when choosing a ship. On top of all the quality restaurants already offered on all Carnival ships, the Carnival Magic will feature the updated Cucina del Capitano. This informal dining area is designed to give you the feel of a rustic Italian restaurant. The details include real olive oil bottles along the wall, and photos of the staffs families. The menu will feature classic Italian fare such as eggplant parmesean, braised ribs, calamari, and of course, plenty of standard pasta dishes. The staff promises classic Italian styled entertainment. There is a cover charge during the evenings, but it’s less than $10 per person, and during the day they will serve classic pasta dishes only.
Carnival Magic Red Frog
The Carnival Magic Red Frog is one of the points that everyone has been talking about. This pub will feature a Key West type flair, with daily drink specials and foods to match. During the day the pub is cozy, and at night they open it to the large Lanai deck. The idea is to turn the area in to a tiki type party for adults to enjoy.
Ocean Plaza
Even the other Carnival ships that feature atriums can’t hold a candle to this. The Ocean Plaza features designs by artists who have worked on some of the biggest and best luxury cruise ships out there. You can find mythological themes throughout, pale woods, green glass, and even a grand piano on a raised podium. This will be a great place to gather with friends for a few drinks, unwind during the day, or enjoy the entertainment in the evenings. For those who are looking for a more active night life, Deck 3 is a promising bar/night club that promises to allow you to dance the night away every night you’re on board the cruise ship.
Cherry On Top
Next to the shopping mall on Deck 5 you’ll find the new Cherry on Top shopping area. Unlike some other cruises, this shop is a one stop. You can rent formal wear, purchase gourmet cakes to be delivered, plan to have wine or champagne delivered, or just stock up on your favorite sweets. You’ll also find plenty of Carnival Cruise branded souvenirs to take to friends and family.
Fully Appointed Water Park
Most of the new Carnival ships have the WaterWorks aqua park. On the Carnival Magic ship this has been taken to another level. The Twister is the largest snaking slide in the entire Carnival fleet. In order to make this park as huge as they did, the normal pools have been scaled back and made for adults only. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Kids would generally prefer the water park, leaving the other 2 pools quiet and peaceful for the grownups.
Carnival Magic Itinerary
The Carnival Magic ship is set to leave from Galveston, Texas in November 2011. The ship is schedules for eastern Caribbean cruises and western Caribbean cruises through April. On the eastern leg you can expect to visit Nassau, Freeport, and Key West. The western leg will go through Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. In May 2011 the first voyage will be a Mediterranean cruise, going through Barcelona and back to Galveston. Carnival is moving a few of the ships already stationed at Galveston to make room for Magic. The Carnival Conquest and Ecstasy are both being moved to New Orleans and will offer shorter Caribbean cruises. This will make Galveston the home base for the new Carnival Magic.
