How the Grand Princess Cruise is Different

The Grand Princess Cruise ship has undergone renovations in the last couple of years. The bulk of the renovations are scheduled to be finished by the 2012 cruising season. The Grand Princess Cruise ship is going to be getting a complete makeover that will take a total of 24 days and millions of dollars. This is by far the biggest renovation that Princess has ever had done to any of their ships. Even if you’ve sailed on this ship in the past, it’s worth taking a look at what the new, upgraded ship will offer when it is rereleased in the fleet.

Different Look

One of the biggest and most obvious changes to the ship is the loss of its very distinctive handle. This will change the entire profile of the Grand Princess Cruise ship without the shopping trolley handle. This alone will be something that rids the Princess Cruise lines entirely of Deck 18. This change alone will be one that you don’t have to be on the ship to notice.

Deck 18

Deck 18 happens to be the ship’s infamous handle. It happens to also have the Skywalkers Nightclub which will also be taken away. However, a new night club called One5 will be put on deck 15 to make up for the loss of Skywalkers. This area that the night club will be used at is currently being used as a Grand Princess Cruise conference room. The removal of the deck will help to improve the overall operational performance of the Princess Lines Cruises ship. Without the additional large deck the fuel efficiency will be a lot better.

Atrium

What was once the atrium will now be the Piazza, a signature Princess international café that boasts pastries, sandwiches and coffees. There will also be a Vine’s wine bar added to this area. This is a bar that is well known on the newer and larger Princess Cruise ships. In addition to wine, Vines will also serve sushi and tapas. There will be a wine bar where Grand Princess Cruise passengers can purchase the wine they have just tasted.

Restaurants

The Sterling Steakhouse on this Princess Cruise lines ship is also going to be getting a renovation of its own. It will soon become the Crown Grill. This will include an open kitchen that will serve fresh seafood as well as beef. An open kitchen pizzeria restaurant will also be added to this ship. The name of the restaurant is called Alfredo’s, named after the master executive Princess Cruise chef, Alfredo Marzi.

Deck 7

What used to be the Promenade Lounge and bar out on Deck 7 will soon become Crooners. This is a classic 1950s martini bar. This will be added to the Grand Princess Cruise ship. Look for it on the Crown Princess Cruise ship as the bar is already established on the newer ships of this particular fleet. Another big change that will be made to Deck 7 is a library and tea lounge. This dual purpose room will serve specialty custom blended teas that are associated with the Mighty Leaf Tea Company. This will allow you to blend your teas and get a taste that has never been experienced before.

Additions to the Grand Princess Cruise Ship

In addition to all of the previously mentioned changes and additions, this ship will also add 10 brand new suits. Their casino will also be completely remodeled on the Princess Cruise Grand as well as their art gallery and boutiques. The Grand Princess Cruise ship will also experience enhancements to the wedding chapel and the spa and court will also be noticeable.
