Important Documents
Of course you know you’ll need your airline and Hawaii vacation cruise tickets before you leave. But other than this, there are other documents you should carry with you. Passports and visas should be packed in a pouch that you can easily access. If you are required to have vaccination certificates, you should put those in the same place. It’s also important to make sure you have more than just 1 form of photo ID. Also carry your medical insurance cards in this pouch. Receipts for travelers checks, a list of medications you are taking, and emergency numbers should also be in this pouch. Hawaii cruises, as do all cruises, require a bit of preparation.
Small Essentials
You don’t need to pack everything in your house for your Hawaii cruises. You do want to make sure you have small essentials packed snugly. This can include reading glasses, sun glasses, cameras and batteries, extra memory cards for digital cameras, laptops or PDAs, travel clock, cell phone chargers, and plug adaptors. If you forget your camera or memory cards you can generally purchase disposable cameras or extra memory cards on the ship. This is one of the most valued items people take with them on their Hawaii package. These items can be packed in your luggage since you probably won’t need them until you board the ship.
Clothing for Hawaii Cruises
Packing the right clothing for Hawaii cruises is going to be essential. A lot of people assume that they just need a swimsuit and some lounge clothes. While being comfortable is important, you want to take several extra items with you. If you plan on attending any 5 star restaurants or any formal cocktails on the cruise, make sure you have appropriate attire for this. If you are taking a separate Hawaii dinner cruise you need to make sure you have attire for this as well. Shoes are also one of the most frequently overlooked items. You want shoes for the ship, shoes for hiking and walking, and shoes for the beach. It can get chilly in the evenings despite the tropical climate. Prepare for this by taking a light jacket or sweater with you. Also prepare for rain. Having umbrellas or ponchos in case you get stuck in a storm will be a great way to stay healthy and dry. It will also allow you to fully enjoy the deck on Hawaii cruises, even in wet weather. It’s a good idea to have more than one swim suit anytime you take a cruise to a tropical location. This way while one is being laundered you have a back up. Pack some trash bags for dirty laundry too.
Overlooked Items
If you’ve ever been out somewhere and had a button pop on a blouse, you know how important it is to have a sewing kit. If you don’t want to pay a lot for this on the Hawaii cruise ship, just bring one with you. Hats and visors can keep the sun off your face while you enjoy the water. Remember the water reflects the sun and the glare can be pretty bad. Speaking of the sun, don’t forget to take sunscreen. The Hawaii cruise won’t be much fun if you’ve got a nasty sunburn. Super glue can be good to fix broken luggage or to fix a broken fingernail. While the Hawaii cruises will have doctors and medical staff onboard, having a small first aid kit is a good idea. This may minor issues such as sunburns, scrapes, or pain can be treated without taking up the medical staffs time. The staff may also not be available if you’re off the boat and exploring the Hawaii Islands.
What to Leave at Home
You may want to show off your brand new diamond necklace, but if it’s something you don’t wear everyday don’t risk it. You could lose it, or worse, it could be stolen. It’s best to leave high dollar items at home. If you feel that you must take them, make sure you have them stowed away and lock them in the safe in your stateroom. DVD players can be left at home too. If you’re bringing a laptop you can watch movies from it. Many of the cruise ships offer DVD players in the rooms anyhow. Also remember that if you pack something you are risking losing it. Don’t pack anything that you couldn’t stand losing if the bag is lost or stolen while on the Hawaii cruises.
